Overview

We utilize a file server for what you'll know as your R:, S:, and T: drives. This page details how to connect to this file server.

Connecting from a Personal Computer

First and foremost, it is best to obtain what you need from these shares while you're in one of our labs, but as we know, there are many reasons why you may need to access one or all of these shares from a personal computer.

  1. If you are off campus, you will need to VPN from your personal computer to be able to access the CETSTUDENTS file server.
    • If you don't already have the Cisco Secure Client software downloaded and installed on your personal computer, follow the steps here to download, install, and use the Cisco Secure Client.
  2. If you're on campus or are already connected to the RIT VPN, we can continue.
  3. Enter \\cetstudents.ad.rit.edu into either the address bar of File Explorer or a "Run" command box and press enter.
  4. You will be prompted for a username and password. You must enter your RIT username prefixed with MAIN\ (example: main\abc1234) and your RIT computer account password.
    • This is incredibly important. 9/10 people who report that they are unable to connect didn't follow this step.
    • If you set your computer to remember your password, you will need to do step 3 again when you change your password.
  5. You should then be connected to CETSTUDENTS. From there, access the folder you need:
    • Course Materials (R Drive) is the Courses folder.
    • Student Share (S Drive) is the Students folder.
      • You will then need to find your username and then you'll find your files as if you were in the labs.
      • Only files that you put in your S drive and your Desktop and Documents folders from lab computers will be there. Anything stored on the lab computers in other places will not be available on your S drive. You are responsible for your own data if you want to keep it.
    • Software Share (T Drive) is the Software folder.
